Dubrovnik: Lokanda Peskaria

Dubrovnik, in the south of Croatia, is a lovely town. Clarice and I stayed in a wonderful pension in the suburb of Lapad, run by Maro, and his wife, Irena. (By the way, if you're heading to Dubrovnik, I highly recommend staying here - check out Apartments Irena Dubrovnik, on the Hostelworld website). It's a short bus-ride away from the old town, and a 5 minute walk from a great pebble beach. More importantly, Maro is awesome! He was so helpful, and gave us great advice about where to go (and more importantly, where to eat!) in Dubrovnik. Furthermore, the actual rooms were wonderful. It was just like having our own home in Dubrovnik!

One of the restaurants Maro recommended was Lokanda Peskaria, located just on the port of the old town. (Photo above, with blue awnings and white umbrellas). This is one restaurant that serves good quality food and won't rip you off. (We were warned to avoid the restaurants inside the old town with touts to lure you in). Lokanda serves pretty common Croatian dishes - fresh seafood, cheese, salads, and so on - done really well, at reasonable prices and in a great location. We ate there twice.

Located on the port, Lokanda has a great view of the water and town, as well as lots of boats offering tours and day-trips.

Great view from Lokanda

Our first visit was on our first night in Dubrovnik...

Marinated Sardines

Seafood Risotto

Grilled Squids - exquisite!

Creme caramel

And we returned for lunch the next day.

Octopus salad - meltingly soft octopus in a delightfully astringent dressing

Cheese in oil. Hint: whenever you have the option of ordering cheese in Croatia, go for it!

Lokanda Mussels
