Langkawi 2014: Casa Del Mar

7/14/2014 10:36:00 PM

And now we continue with the Langkawi posts! Today I'll be telling you about the wonderful hotel that we stayed in, Casa Del Mar. Prior to this trip I wasn't familiar with Langkawi at all, so we just picked Casa Del Mar based on excellent TripAdvisor reviews and its very good website - luckily we weren't disappointed!

Casa Del Mar is about a ten minute drive from the airport, on the popular tourist stretch of Pantai Cenang. In a happy coincidence, after I mentioned on Facebook that we were there, three separate friends got in contact to say that they'd stayed at Casa Del Mar previously, and loved it! Yay for the vote of confidence!

The hotel is quite small, and really has an intimate feel. The staff were very friendly and all of the admin (check-in, check-out, organising a tour etc.) was handled very professionally and smoothly.

We chose a Casa Seaview Studio Suite: a very comfortable and beautiful room, directly facing the pool and onto the beach.

The amenities included a flatscreen TV with a good selection of channels, (we watched a LOT of TLC channel during the afternoon rainy spells!), air-con and fan, iPod docking station, dining room table and chairs, couch with ottoman, bathtub, separate shower, desk, beach towels, weighing scale (obviously I studiously avoided using that throughout the holiday!), umbrellas, freshly baked biscuits, and tea and coffee-making facilities.

The room

Soaps!

I know this is very dorky of me, but I was ridiculously excited when, on our first day at the hotel, they came in and replaced the little coffee plunger...

The room rate included a buffet breakfast, which was served in this gorgeous beachside location.

The bar

I loved the fruit stand, with local fresh fruits cut to order.

Rendang and rice, cereals and yogurt, fruit compotes and nuts

Fresh coffee and OJ

In addition to all the yumminess you see above, you could order a la carte breakfasts (included in the room rate). I loved the French toast and banana pancakes especially, and Sandra adored all the exotic (for us) tropical fruits!

One really special thing we did, and something I would totally recommend, is Casa Del Mar's castaway picnic. The package costs 600 ringgit for two people, and you get your OWN PRIVATE ISLAND for the day. Whuuuuut! You get driven in a speedboat and dropped off at a private beach on a remote island, with your own tent set up with flowing nets, comfortable cushions, and a picnic lunch! Squee!

Totally dreamy!

In addition to the sweet, sweet picnic esky, you are given heaps of provisions (first aid kit, anti-jellyfish cream, and a radio to call for help if needed - not romantic but practical). In terms of food, you get your choice of lunch dish (pre-ordered, obviously), plus soft drinks, water, chopped fruit and coffee.

Picnic

Chicken sandwich; Chicken curry

I chose a chicken sandwich, and Sandra chose the chicken curry. The sandwich was good (hearty grainy bread is difficult to find in Malaysia!), but OMG, the chicken curry was amazing! It tasted like homemade - nice and spicy with a generous amount of chicken. It was a big serving, so I got to have some too - muahaha!

And what a treat to have such a yummy lunch in such a peaceful and beautiful setting!

Apart from eating all that yummy food, we spent the day sunbathing, swimming, sleeping, and admiring the gorgeous views. Heaven!

And all too soon, the speedboat came back to take us back to the hotel. Even the ride from the beach to the hotel was gorgeous - I loved sailing through the beautiful, lush green islands!

Farewell beautiful island!

And as if there wasn't enough relaxation on this holiday, I also visited the Satkara Spa for a foot reflexology massage. I really enjoyed the treatment, and the spa itself was very nice and well-appointed, but it was a bit difficult to make an appointment - on our first day at the hotel I tried calling the spa a bunch of times after breakfast but no answer; I then went up to the spa and found the spa reception deserted, apart from some other guests also waiting to try and make a booking. (I waited there for about half an hour before giving up). Later on that day, I managed to call through to the spa and make an appointment for the next day (yay!). When I had my treatment, the practitioner told me that in addition to the hotel guests, they get lots of group bookings from clients outside the hotel, so it gets super busy really quickly.

We also spent a lot of the time just lounging around the pool and beach. There are daybeds and umbrellas set up all around the pool, and on the beach itself. The lovely staff also bring around iced water and mango popsicles throughout the day. What a treat!

We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant (see my previous Langkawi post for the plethora of wonderful eating options Langkawi had to offer!), but did indulge in some poolside treats on our last day there.

Club sandwich and wedges

Chicken burger and fries

I'm going to wrap up this post with a couple of photos of pretty pretty Pantai Cenang. Casa Del Mar sure is in a great location!

We loved Casa Del Mar, and would definitely recommend it for a nice relaxing stay in Langkawi!
