Random things I've been cooking...

Mmm... fattening. Here are some small things I've been making recently. Above we have Nigella's delicious mozzarella in carozza, from Nigella Bites. 2 pieces of plastic white bread, filled with slices of cow's milk mozzarella (from a ball, not the yellow supermarket stuff), dipped in egg and fried. It is so delicious, but terribly unhealthy, so I make it very rarely. These little fried sandwiches are fabulous with sweet chilli sauce (as indeed, any fried food would be).

Next up are my favourite cookies in the whole world, The Rock's Favourite Chocolate Chip Cookies, from The Official WWF cookbook. Click here for a detailed description of how to make these droolworthy cookies. I took them to work to share with my coworkers, and they went down very, very well. Even the boss' wife liked them, and she is fantastic baker herself.

Continuing on the cookie theme... I also made a repeat of Bill Granger's peanut butter chocolate chunk cookies, which my good friend Markii dubbed designer cookies, due to my very unsubtle use of branded Lindt chocolate. Last time I chopped up a bar of Lindt milk chocolate, but this time I used the Lindt Piccoli milk pieces, which come in handy hexagons. They were a bit thick and doughy; next time I must remember to flatten!

Finally, we have Nigella's Mushroom Steak Sandwich.
To make these, you get one large field mushroom per sandwich, and bake it with butter, garlic and parsley, before wodging it into a bread roll and inhaling the whole lot. I made these as recipe number 33 for my How to Eat project, but that time I only had plastic white bread. It was ok, but not quite right. This time, I used some good crusty sourdough from Brioche bakery, on Commercial road. Absolute heaven.

  4. I was wishing I had cheap bread and mozzarella in the house on Sunday to feed a dreadul hangover - mozzarella in carozza really is the best.

I think I'll make myself a mushroom sandwich on Saturday to accompany my Harry Potter fest!
